Demi Lovato issues public statement after leaving hospital

Singer and actress Demi Lovato has spoken out after she was rushed to hospital last week, with sources alleging that she had taken an overdose. Having struggled with drug and alcohol addiction in the past, she has previously publicly acknowledged the depths that she reached before finding her way towards recovery. She has written about her journey in her music and last year released the documentary ‘Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated’ in which she discussed her mental health, her addiction to both drugs and alcohol, and the eating disorder she has fought so hard to heal.

In her post, released on Instagram to her 70 million followers, Lovato says ‘I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction.’ She goes on to state that, ‘this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet’.

The singer’s life has been well documented for years. From appearing on TV show ‘Barney & Friends’ as a child, she has remained in the spotlight, working across the film, television and music industries. Her commitment to honesty and openness concerning her personal struggles has garnered widespread support and following her rush to hospital, many celebrities and fans reached out on social media sending messages of love.

Demi Lovato has now returned to rehab, to ‘take the time to heal and focus on sobriety and road to recovery’. She said ‘I will keep fighting’. We wish her all the best.
