Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child has opened up about her mental health, releasing a post on Instagram in which she encourages others to ‘seek help, support and guidance’ during difficult periods.

In an interview in 2017 she described her experience with depression as, ‘really, really bad, to the point of being suicidal’ and since then has frequently spoken up in order to raise awareness of mental health issues.

As a member of one of the most successful bands in the world, Michelle shared a stage, travelled the world and won numerous awards with Kelly Rowland and Beyonce Knowles. She went on to become a solo singer/songwriter and an actress, appearing on Broadway, in London’s West End and on television. She was a contestant in Season 8 of US show Strictly Come Dancing and has worked tirelessly as a philanthropist.

Describing herself as a ‘mental health advocate’, in her post she encourages her followers to ‘recognise when it’s time to seek help’ and look for support if they are struggling.

According to TMZ, she has recently sought treatment by checking into a mental health facility. All our well wishes are with Michelle at this time.
